Paint Overspray Contamination

Q. What's Paint Overspray anyway?

A. Simply put, overspray is little (or big) specks of something on your vehicle's paint. It happens when you've happened to park your vehicle near a building or house being painted, or nearby where someone is spraying or doing concrete work. You can drive through it. It can even come from heavy pollutants in the form of industrial fallout. You don't even have to be very close--overspray can be carried quite a distance by the wind. It can look like a fine mist all over the vehicle. This creates a barrier, sometimes clouds the finish, and must be removed before the vehicle can be polished and waxed. If the overspray happens to be the same color as your car, it may be first detected by feel--running your hand over the surface of the vehicle.

Q. How is it taken off my car?

A. Two unfortunate things about overspray is that it's time consuming and difficult to remove, and some kinds may damage your clearcoat. Often we can do a pre-test to determine this. However, all overspray removal must be done properly, with no harsh methods or solvents, to ensure no damage to the vehicle's paint. Over the years high end detailing services has developed a safe and sure method for overspray removal. We carefully remove it by hand, inch by inch, from the paint, chrome, moldings, windows, rubber--anywhere and everywhere it is. We use a product that causes no harm to the paint whatsoever. Afterwards, the vehicle is completely polished with a non-abrasive polish, and two coats of polymer sealer wax are applied by hand. We've often been told by happy customers that the overspray turned out to be a good thing--they never realized their car could look so wonderful!

Examples of paint Overspray:

recently a client brought his car to me with serious paint overspray issues. he had traveled outside of the country and left his car with a friend that owns a body paint shop. apparently his car was left un-attended and it accumulated all the of overspray from the shop.  as time passed by the oversray paint layered into his honda civic paint, making his car look dull and rough looking.
